Q: What is a Privacy Policy?

A: It is a document that discloses how we collect, protect, share and use the information you provide to us and is intended for residents of Canada (excluding Quebec). Once you register with us, we do not share your information.

Q: What is the purpose of collecting your information, what information is collected and how is MyMacs.ca collecting it?

A: The Purpose of the information you provide MyMacs.ca is to "establish and maintain responsible commercial relations with our customers and provide ongoing service with respect to MyMacs.ca and entering your membership, contests and/or promotions or contacting us". There are various activities on the MyMacs.ca site that require your Personal Information.  When your Personally Identifying Information is collected, you will know because you will be required to fill out a form. When filling out the "contact us" form you may optionally supply us with your Name and Email address. When registering for a MyMacs.ca "account", we require your Email Address, First and Last Name, Birth date, Province of residence, and Country to be completed.  It is your option whether you complete any other fields that are presented when registering for an "account". By filling out the Member Account Information or submitting a form with Personal Information, you are consenting to our collecting the Personally Identifying Information so as to properly fulfill our purpose.  MyMacs.ca collects some information about you using technology, so it may not be obvious to you that it is being collected. Such as, when you come to the site, your IP address is recognized and collected so we know where to send information you request. IP addresses are associated with the place or computer from where you access the Internet like your Internet Service Provider (ISP), company or school. The information is collected through technology to make the MyMacs.ca site more useful and interesting for you. None of that information identifies you personally and we usually will not combine the information collected through technology with your Personal Information. We may combine this technology information with your personal information to identify a user in order to enforce compliance with rules or service terms to protect our service(s), Members, Guests, site(s) or others.

Q: What is a Cookie and How is it Used?

A: Cookie is a piece of information that a Web site will send to your computer when you are at that site. This information allows the site to remember necessary information that makes your use of that site more convenient. MyMacs.ca, and other Internet sites use Cookies for a number of reasons such as to remember items selected for your own customizable start pages, to remember items in a shopping cart for purchase and to ensure kids do not enter prohibited areas. You may choose to have your computer warn you every time a cookie is being sent, accept cookies for only the originating site or you can choose to disable all cookies. You can do this through your browser (such as Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc.) settings and should view your browser Help menu to find the correct way of modifying these settings. If you choose to turn Cookies off, you will not have access to many site features that make your experience and participation more efficient and other services may simply not work.

Q: How will the MyMacs.ca site use the Personal Information that is collected?

A: MyMacs.ca use the information in a number of limited ways. It is used to complete contest entries, inform you if you are a winner, send you e-mail updates or newsletters or to contact you if you have requested information or feedback and send you Mac's promotions. It will not be used to send you special offers or promotions from third party sponsors. You can choose if and how frequently you wish to receive email newsletters within your Account settings.

Q: Does MyMacs.ca share your information with other organizations or companies?

A:  No. As necessary, we will only share your information for security and technical purposes.

MyMacs.ca may contain links to other websites. We are of course not responsible for the privacy practices of other web sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by MyMacs.ca.

Organizations that Assist in the Protection & Security and Safety of our Members and Guests

We will give out Personal Information in compliance with any legal action such as a court order, to enforce our Terms of Service, site, game or contest uses; or to protect the safety and security of our Members and Guests.

Q: What Choices do I have about the collection, use and sharing of my information?

A: It is possible for you to explore and use much of the MyMacs.ca site without giving out any Personal Information. When you do register with us or give us Personal Information, you will have the opportunity to decline or limit e-mail communications from MyMacs.ca.  You may also request, at any time, to no longer receive any further email from MyMacs.ca, by unsubscribing from the communication or by contacting us through the “Contact Us” section of our web site. However, we reserve the right to contact any account holders with critical system announcements. Again, as mentioned above, you also have ways to limit the information collected through technology. However, some of the features of the site(s) may not work properly if you decide to do this.

Q: What types of security does MyMacs.ca provide?

A: We take technical, physical, contractual and administrative security steps to protect our Members and Guests as the security of that Personal Information is of the highest concern to us. Also, there are things that you can do to help protect your information such as, never give out your ID or password. This information is used to access and change all of your account information. Remember to sign out of your account and close the browser window when you are done surfing so other users are not able to access your information.  

Q: How will I access my Member Account information?

A: Once you are registered with MyMacs.ca can change or access your information by clicking on the “Edit Profile” button found on your Profie Page.  All of the information you gave us during registration will be shown and you can change selected elements of it at any time online. Some information cannot be changed (e.g. username).

You can also write us via email by clicking on the “Contact Us” section on the web site. Please include information that will help identify your account to us so we can assist you with your inquiry or request.

Children Under Age 13

MyMacs.ca does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to register for MyMacs.ca or send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under age 13 may provide any personal information to or on MyMacs.ca. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

Children Between the Ages of 13 and 18

We recommend that minors 13 years of age or older ask their parents for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet.

Q:  How long does MyMacs.ca retain my Personal Information?

Privacy legislation stipulates that personal information need not be retained longer than is reasonably necessary.  When you close your "account", we close your file and delete your personal information within a reasonable time frame

Q:  Can I access MyMacs.ca to review my Personal Information?

A: Under privacy legislation, individuals have a right of access to records containing their Personal Information.  A reasonable fee may be charged but we will provide an advance estimate of any fee we propose to charge.  Access requests for Personal Information are to be directed to the Privacy Officer as per the below contact information.  All access requests are to be in writing and shall set out in sufficient detail the scope of the request.  If there is an error or omission in Personal Information in MyMacs.ca custody, we will correct the information as soon as reasonably possible.  MyMacs.ca Privacy Officer will assist you with the access required and respond in a timely manner.
